Select a Mini Storage Unit the Smart Way, and We’ll Help

Choosing the right secure storage facility for your needs isn’t that hard. That’s where the professionals at South Beach Mini Storage can help.
There are a few basic steps to take. First, you want to look at how many goods you will be storing, and any special requirements they may have. Second, consider the location, the hours you can access it, and any on-site services you will require. Last, look at the value.

Considering the Goods You Will Be Storing

Your stuff is important, so it’s worth some planning to get it right. How much storage space will you need and how are you going to put the stuff in there?
To decide how much mini storage you need, first start with items that cannot be conventionally packed.

  • Delicate items
  • Odd-sized and over-sized items
  • Items that must be stored in a specific way (“this side up”, and so on)
  • Items that are extremely dense or heavy
  • Items that are extremely light
  • Appliances
  • Furniture

You’ll have to estimate the total storage square footage of these goods. Remember, many of them cannot be safely stacked. We’ll call this number A.

Next, estimate the carton goods (subject to any stacking restrictions). Even well packed cartons cannot safely be stacked too high. Your storage facility and/or fire department may have restrictions on stacking height as well. Call the total storage square footage of carton goods B.

If you need to set certain goods aside for more frequent access, consider their square footage as C.

Your unit should be a somewhat larger than A+B+C to allow for space between items.

It can be difficult to estimate the amount of storage these items will take.

The experts at South Beach Mini Storage are happy to help; we have six sizes of secure storage to meet every need.

The Location of Your Mini Storage Is Critical

Now that you know what size of unit you need, you need to choose a location. And the location of your storage unit is a huge factor. The further away the storage unit is, longer it takes to store and retrieve goods, and the more it costs. In an era of uncertain fuel prices, local storage is best. That’s especially true if you will frequently access some of the goods. In fact, you should consider the distance from your home to any secure storage that you’re considering as part of the cost of the space.

Our location, directly off US Hwy 101 in South Beach, is 1 mile south of the Yaquina Bay Bridge. We are convenient to Newport and greater Lincoln County.

Check the Services Offered At Each Mini Storage Facility

Some storage facilities are just remote lots, with little security and infrequent access. Insist on a modern facility with good security fencing, 24 hour lighting, and video monitoring.

Make sure you can access the facility at times that are convenient to you. The best mini storage facilities have facility managers on-site to help you.
Check to see if they have packing materials, if you need them, or additional services like RV storage, boat or auto storage.
